Structural and MEP Engineering Design

Dating from 1970, this building contains offices, a bank branch, a senior management suite and a 180-seat auditorium. The building, in a zone 2 weakly seismic zone, is formed of a south wing comprising two storeys and a terrace over a semi-underground basement at garden level, and a six-storey plus equipment room wing over the garden level. The auditorium is located in a building adjacent to the south wing.

The structural challenge associated with this project was to preserve those parts of the building that ensured its stability in order not to change in any way the vulnerability of its different elements to seismic events. In addition to the various strengthening and adaptation works related to the needs of the equipment spaces, the structural project was mainly focused around the modification of existing hubs and the creation of new hubs, as well as building a new metal-framed double-height entrance hall.

Hot and chilled water production is by a thermorefrigerating pump working in conjunction with a reversible heat pump. This refurbishment is planned to achieve an HQE Renovation rating of Excellent, a BREEAM rating of Very Good and the BBC-Effinergie Renovation certificate.  The building’s HVAC system uses 4-pipe fan coils. Air treatment uses double flow units with energy recovery.
